Colour Question

Post by Drcushy58victor »

Hi I have a question i hope someone can help with .
I have a ( i Think ) 1958 LCV 1000 Van
The ID plate states
Type : OE51
Car No : 6/67000/1541
Engine N0: 9M/U/H/158940
Colour : OUOBA TAN/3

My Question is
: that i can not seem to find the coulour paint in any of the Morris identification papers
I would think it is Tan colour but i would like to use the same colour to paint it and wanted to use the same colour ?

It might be what was called Sandy Beige.

It Might be that colour .. might take a sample to the Auto Paint shop and see what they come up with ..
I thought the colour code on the name plate would reference me to a colour type / code ????
But no luck yet ..
Thank you for your reply

That plate doesn’t look original to me. Especially the screws holding it.

Yeh i understand that .
But there Car ID Number on the plate matches the number stamped into the fire wall on the passenger's side ..
So Probably is the correct plate??

Yes, difficult to be sure, my thoughts come from doubting the factory would stamp those numbers in such an untidy fashion, the unsupported number stamping on the bulkhead has damaged the surrounding area ————-but who knows !
Good luck with the colour search.

Pardon my ignorance. Were Morris LCVs shipped to Australia as knocked down kits? I vaguely recall a mention that cars assembled outside of England had paint colors different from the factory shades? If I recall correctly my ‘59 PU VIN plate was secured with Phillips head screws. It was 40 years old and repainted when I acquired it so I can’t say that was original.

Thanks for the feed back ..
I will go with the idea that the colour is original as it has been painted 3 other colours on the outside but all inside panels , inside doors , bonnet and under hinges are the tan / sandy beige…
So ….
Go with it …
