Lets play stump the experts - Door Locks -

Post by vigil »

I am trying to figure out how the door locks work.
My 1959 Morris Minor Van is a export left hand drive model.
i can lock the door by pushing the handle forward on the left side.
The right side has the lock in the handle.
It does not seem to lock the door by pushing the handle forward.

So what is different in the set up of the two sides?

What makes the one side lock the door by pushing the handle forward.
Can this be put on the right side so it will unlock and open from inside.

I found a left side locking door handle i will be installing soon.
I have been told to be careful because the door has to be unlocked by the side it was locked.
If you lock it by the key you have to unlock it by the key.
If you lock it by pushing the handle forward.
You have to unlock the door by pulling the handle back.

Because i do not use the right side entry very often.
I would like to make it lock from the inside like the left side.
Is there a way to accomplish this?

My other question is there a source for tumblers for the van locks?
I would like to make all my locks match.
