Hi

Next on my snagging list is the wooden packers that are fitted between cab and body.
Picture shows what there is left of the original ones that I have. Did try to use these as templates for replacement, but not enough left for accuracy. Could not find any of these listed on any of the usual sites?

What have others done,as I am sure these are vital for finishing? Also what was the point of them?

They can supply them. But I'm sure Fairmile Restorations could as well. They sorted mine out.

I made my own, easy to make. Just shape with a sanding disc to the curve of the B post front and back. The rubber seal covers them from the outside.

More shaping on the back but I don't have a picture. They were used to fill the space where the 4 door rear hinges were located, just a filler.

If you need the basic shape of them, pm me with your address and I'll send you a tracing.

I have my old ones ... what wood would you use .... Ash.

Yes .... any type of wood that can be easily sanded/shaped.

Got that sorted thanks to your help. Next problem is the rubber seal that fits between the flanges of the cab lower rear member and the body front lower member. Its listed as part no ADA591 but despite extensive searching and phoning cannot find one. best advice that I have is to use other types of sealing material.
What have others done please? I cannot remember removing this when dismantling.

I seem to remember these pieces but think they were made from foam, the manual suggests rubber. I can’t visualise their position all this time later but if they’re the ones I’m thinking of, I do know I didn’t reuse them, as I thought they would soak up water. However I wouldn’t have left them out without being sure the appropriate area was sealed.
Anyone got a close up of the area concerned as a reminder? I’m now curious!

My 61 and 55 vans were completely original, there were no seals between the front cross member ends and the lower part of the B posts other than the outer seals that seal the cab to the back all the way around. When I restored them I just used the outer seals.

I do have some self adhesive thick foam tape 1" wide which would fit, but as you say this would not really seal this joint, and indeed may hold moisture?
I would have thought that the thickness of this seal would be quite important,as it will determine the height of the body relevant to the cab roof?


Keith, please explain what you mean by "all the way around" and "outer ones"?
